About
“Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender who you are, for what you could become.”
Believe it or not I found that quote on a sticky note stuck to the bottom of my shoe when I was 18, walking down a busy downtown street. I didn’t ask for it, and I don’t know who said it first, but it found me anyway.
Growing up I lived a very nomadic life, sailing and traversing the world with my parents. They taught me many things, but the most important lesson I’ve ever received is that my life relies on movement. Externally or internally I’m always surfing, finding the swells, learning their curves. I don’t always stay afloat, but I know that diving deep and finding the quiet spaces are where the answers to our questions lie.
I’ve always found doing what you love to be inherently valuable. I’ve also found hard work that you don’t really want to do, equally as valuable. But people don’t like to talk about those things at the same time. I think that’s because people associate love with fun. When in reality, if you’re a driving force for something that you LOVE, you have to accept the challenges that come with such a passion.
I think that’s why a lot of people gave up on being a rockstar.
Throughout my life I’ve worn a lot of hats and built many roles for myself. Creating and crafting new things and experiences holds the helm of my interest. It seems to me that a lot of people are comfortable with things the way that they’ve always been. And that’s okay. But for me, change has been, well, the essence of life. No matter the role or position I find myself in, I will bring the same values to the table.
So I say, rock on.
